Deadline EXTENDED:

Friday, March 27, 2009 by noon EST

Thank you for your interest in submitting a proposal to present a workshop session at the 6th Annual Workshop on K-12 Engineering Education presented by Dassault Systemes.  Please refer to the information on this page as you prepare your submission. Submit your completed Proposal Form to the Proposal Committee at k12workshop@asee.org - no faxes please.

Hands-on Workshop Presentations

  • The primary audience will consist of K-12 teachers from Austin and surrounding districts, as well as engineering educators from across the county who are involved in K-12 outreach activities.
  • Workshops should prominently feature hands-on, classroom activities; provide take-home or classroom-ready materials for participants to use in their own classrooms; and be designed to engage participants in interactive exercises. Workshops that offer tangible material to attendees, in addition to written material, are specifically solicited.
  • ASEE is a registered Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider for the State of Texas.  All Texas educators who hold a Standard Certificate and who are eligible for certificate renewal may earn clock hours in partial fulfillment of CPE renewal requirements for attending workshop sessions.

Workshop Session Details

  • Variable session lengths
    • 75 minutes
    • 150 minutes (presented in two 75-minute blocks)
  • Your choice of classroom or theater seating
  • 25 participants is the average workshop size.  If your session can accommodate more than 25 participants, please describe in the Proposal Form how your session will equally engage all participants.

Selection Criteria

The Proposal Committee will conduct an initial screening of the proposals to check the completeness of the information provided.  Reviewers will read each proposal in its entirety and will focus on the content of your session, including learning objectives.  All proposals will be given equal consideration and will be prioritized to provide a balanced program.

Local Context

Your participation in this year’s Workshop can make a sizeable impact on K-12 educators in Texas.  In 2006, the Texas legislature passed the “4 x 4” Graduation Requirements, which the State Board of Education subsequently approved.  Effective beginning with entering 9th grade students in 2007-2008, students must complete four credits of math and science as part of their graduation requirements.  Engineering is an approved course in fulfillment of the final or fourth year of science.  For more information, visit the Texas Education Agency website at http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/curriculum/
